The Panda is one of the most recognizable and adored animals on earth. They
live in central and southwest China and as of today there are less then 3,000 in
the wild.

When mothers give birth to cubs, they weigh only 4.5 ounces. The cubs will stay
with their mothers for up to 2 years. There is a very low birth rate among
Pandas, and mothers are usually forced to abandon all but one of her cubs.

A Panda's diet consists mainly of bamboo, accounting for nearly 99% of their food
source. On average a fully grown Panda can eat up to 30 lbs of bamboo shoots
a day. Much of the land that held bamboo has been developed and the Pandas
have been forced into higher elevations that have considerably less vegetation.

Due to the severe loss of habitat the Panda is an endangered species. Pandas
International is working to help the Panda and protect it. Visit Pandas
International and see the great work they are doing.
